Plans, managing and cancelling your subscription

Which plans exist, what the Free plan includes, what paid plans unlock, and how to subscribe, switch or cancel.

Updated

Norman has a Free plan with no expiry date and paid plans that mainly unlock filing with the Finanzamt. Which plans you see depends on whether you are self-employed, run a UG or GmbH, or file only your private income tax return.

Which plans exist?

All prices are per month, excluding VAT. On yearly billing you pay for 9 months and use 12.

Private individuals and employees

The private income tax return costs €19 one-time per tax year. You pay at submission and need no subscription. Joint filing is included. Read more on Income tax for employees.

The current prices are always on the pricing page.

Why do I see only one paid plan?

Norman shows the plan that fits your business:

  • You are a Kleinunternehmer and do not charge VAT: you see Klein.
  • You charge VAT: you see Pro.
  • You run a UG or GmbH: you see Pro and Max.

Whether you charge VAT is set in your tax settings. If your status changes, the offered plan changes too.

What the Free plan includes

The Free plan is free for good. There is no trial period and no expiry date. You need no payment details to start, and you do not need to cancel anything.

Included:

  • Bookkeeping with the AI autopilot; for UG and GmbH the complete double-entry books with ledger, cash book and asset register
  • Unlimited invoices, sent as ZUGFeRD e-invoices, with the XML file available for download
  • Real-time tax estimate and the preview of every tax report
  • Access for your tax advisor
  • Connection to ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants (MCP)
  • Web app, iPhone and Android app, Mac app and Chrome extension
  • Data export at any time and migration from other providers

These limits apply on the Free plan:

A limit only blocks the next step. An existing bank connection or an active rule is not switched off while you are on the Free plan.

Filing with the Finanzamt

You can create the preview of a tax report on every plan. To submit it to the Finanzamt, Norman needs two things:

  1. Your e-mail address is confirmed.
  2. A paid plan is active.

Private individuals need no plan. They pay €19 at submission.

One rule applies to Kleinunternehmer: you submit the annual returns (EÜR, income tax, trade tax, annual VAT return) only on yearly billing. On monthly billing Norman shows Upgrade to the annual plan to submit. Corrections of a return you already submitted are exempt.

Which tax years and forms Norman supports is listed in Which tax years and tax filings does Norman support?.

Monthly or yearly?

  • Yearly billing is cheaper: you pay for 9 months and use 12. It renews for a year unless you cancel.
  • Monthly billing is flexible and renews every month.
  • The welcome offer gives new accounts 75% off the first 3 months on monthly billing. Norman shows it in the first 14 days after registration if you never had a subscription. After the 3 months the normal monthly price applies. The offer does not apply to the private income tax return.

Subscribe or switch plans

  1. Open Account and then the My subscription tab.
  2. Choose Yearly or Monthly and then the plan.
  3. Pay by card. VAT is added at checkout.

The new plan is active right after payment. Under My subscription you then see Your current plan and the Next payment date.

To switch between paid plans, click Manage subscriptions. There you change the plan, update your card and download your invoices. A switch to a cheaper plan takes effect at the end of the paid period. There is no partial refund.

Subscription in the iPhone or Android app

For phone-specific steps, store offers and restoring a purchase, read Mobile subscriptions.

You can also subscribe in the app through the App Store or Google Play. My subscription then shows Managed via the Apple App Store or Google Play. You change or cancel the plan in the store's subscription settings, not in Norman. The store issues the invoice. The Mac app cannot manage plans. Use the web app for that.

Download subscription invoices

After every payment Norman sends the invoice to your e-mail address. You can also download it in the app at any time:

Account → My subscription → Manage subscriptions

If the e-mail does not arrive, check your spam folder. The download in the app is the reliable backup.

Cancel your subscription

  1. Open Account → My subscription → Manage subscriptions.
  2. Cancel the subscription. Alternatively, write to support@norman.finance.

The cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. Until then your access stays. There is no partial refund for the remaining term. On yearly billing, the terms ask you to cancel at least 30 days before the renewal.

After that your account continues on the Free plan. Your data stays, and you can export it at any time. If you want to delete your account completely, read Deleting your data: how it works at Norman.

Private individuals have a 14-day right of withdrawal. It ends once Norman has delivered the service, for example when the tax return is already submitted. Business customers have no right of withdrawal. The details are in the terms and conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a credit card to start? No. You register with your e-mail address. You add a card only when you switch to a paid plan.

Can I deduct Norman? Yes. As a self-employed person or a company you deduct the plan as a business expense.

What does "Norman AI usage" show? Under My subscription you see how many AI messages you used this month. The limit resets every month.

I use Norman through Qonto. Then your access comes from the Qonto partnership, and the plans above do not apply. Read more in Which legal forms does Norman support?.

Is tax advice included in the plan? No. The tax advisor program is a separate offer with its own prices. Read Does Norman offer a tax advisor service? and the tax advice page.
