FAQ

Do I need a tax advisor for my GmbH?

No, the law does not require one. Norman books your receipts and bank transactions with AI, and you review and approve. On the Max plan, Norman files your tax returns with the tax office through ELSTER. If you work with a tax advisor, you invite them to Norman from the Pro plan.

How much does bookkeeping for a GmbH cost with Norman?

Double-entry bookkeeping, unlimited e-invoices and bank sync for one account are free. Pro, with BWA reports, DATEV export and tax advisor access, costs €9 a month. Max, with every tax return and the annual accounts, costs €39 a month. Both prices apply with yearly billing.

Does a GmbH need double-entry bookkeeping?

Yes. A GmbH is always a merchant (Kaufmann) under German law and must keep double-entry books (§§ 238, 242 HGB). At the end of each financial year it prepares annual accounts with a balance sheet and a profit and loss statement. Norman keeps double-entry books on the free plan.

Which tax returns does Norman file for my GmbH?

On the Max plan, Norman files the VAT pre-return (UStVA), the EC sales list (ZM), corporate tax, trade tax, the annual VAT return and the E-Bilanz with your tax office through ELSTER. For the disclosure (Offenlegung), Norman creates a PDF that you upload to publikations-plattform.de.

Does Norman prepare the annual accounts of my GmbH?

Yes, on the Max plan. Norman builds the balance sheet and P&L from your bookkeeping, you check the figures, and Norman files the E-Bilanz through ELSTER. A small GmbH must prepare its annual accounts within six months after the end of the financial year (§ 264 HGB).

Does Norman work with my tax advisor and DATEV?

Yes. From the Pro plan, you invite your tax advisor to Norman and export your bookings in DATEV format. You can also use Norman without a tax advisor.

Can I start with Norman in the middle of the financial year?

Yes, on any date. Upload the DATEV export of your previous bookkeeping, and Norman takes over your opening balances and chart of accounts from it.

Does Norman also run payroll for my GmbH?

Yes. Norman runs payroll for managing directors, employees and commercial mini-jobbers and files the wage tax return through ELSTER. You pay salaries, wage tax and social security contributions with one click. Payroll is a paid feature.

Where does Norman store the data of my GmbH?

In EU data centers in Frankfurt am Main. Norman follows the GDPR.
