What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT connect securely to external tools, such as Norman for company formation, accounting, invoicing, and taxes.

Is Norman officially listed in Claude and ChatGPT?

Yes. Norman is in Anthropic's Claude connector directory and OpenAI's ChatGPT plugin directory, and it's published in the official MCP registry as finance.norman/mcp-server. From the directories, connecting is a single click.

Which AI tools does it work with?

Claude (web, desktop, mobile, and Claude Code), ChatGPT, Cursor, Replit, n8n, OpenClaw, and any other MCP-compatible client. The server runs remotely over Streamable HTTP at https://mcp.norman.finance/mcp.

What can the server actually do?

Over 110 tools: create and send invoices and offers, categorize transactions, attach receipts, pay bills by SEPA transfer, file VAT returns with the Finanzamt via ELSTER, complete the Fragebogen zur steuerlichen Erfassung, and found a GmbH or UG.

Can I form my company through Claude?

Yes. Connect Norman to Claude through MCP and start the guided formation of a UG or GmbH there. Norman collects the required information and guides you through the next steps.

Is it free?

The MCP server itself is free and MIT-licensed. You need a Norman account: the Free plan already includes e-invoicing, bank sync, and AI assistance.

Is my data safe?

Authentication runs via OAuth 2.1, your password never touches the AI, and every session is scoped to your own company. All data is hosted in Germany.

Can the AI really file my tax return?

Yes. Norman builds the Finanzamt preview, you review it, and submission goes through the official ELSTER interface — exactly as it does in the Norman app.

Do I need to install anything?

No. The server is remote: you paste the URL or enable Norman from a directory. If you'd rather run it locally, install norman-mcp-server with pip and start it over stdio.
