Products & Services: your catalog of reusable invoice positions

The catalog holds what you sell: services with an hourly or daily rate, goods with a unit price. Save a position once and pick it on any invoice, quote or recurring invoice instead of typing it again.

Where to find it

Open Invoices and switch to the Products tab. It sits next to Invoices and Clients.

Add a product

1. Click Add product.
2. Fill in the fields:
   • Name: what appears on the invoice line. Unique among your active products.
   • Type: Service or Goods, the sale type of the position.
   • Unit: how you count it, for example Hour, Day or Piece. A service starts with Hour, goods with Piece. Leave it empty if the line should carry no unit.
   • Description: optional text printed under the name on the invoice, up to 500 characters. Line breaks are kept.
   • Price and VAT rate: the unit price and the rate you charge. The VAT rate starts at your country's standard rate.
   • Price includes VAT: tick this if the price you entered is gross. Norman remembers which it is and converts it on the invoice.
   • SKU / article number: optional, unique among your active products.
   • Bookkeeping category: GmbH and UG only. The income account a line from this product books to.
3. Click Create product.

Find, filter and edit

• The search field matches names, article numbers and descriptions.
• Filter by type, and by status: Active, Archived or all.
• Click a row to open Edit product. Changes apply to future invoices only. Invoices you already created keep the values they were created with.

Archive instead of delete

A product is never deleted. Archiving removes it from the catalog and from the suggestions on invoice lines; invoices that used it keep their lines. Open the product and click Archive product. To bring it back, switch the filter to Archived, open the product and click Restore product.

An archived name or article number is free again, so you can create a new product with it.

Products with your AI assistant

If you connected Norman to Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant, it can list, create, update and archive products, and it uses them when it creates invoices for you. See Connect Norman to Claude.
