Fill invoice lines from products

Pick a catalog product on an invoice line, see what Norman copies onto it, and save a typed line as a new product.

Updated

An invoice line can be filled from your catalog. Norman copies the product onto the line and keeps a link to it. The line stays a copy: you can edit it freely, and later changes to the product never touch the invoice.

Pick a product

  1. In the invoice editor, start typing in the Item field of a line. After two characters a list opens.
  2. Matching products come first, under Products & Services. Names you used on recent invoices follow under Recently used.
  3. Click the product.

Norman fills in the name, description, unit, VAT rate and price, and for GmbH and UG companies the bookkeeping category. The line shows From catalog.

Prices and VAT on the line

  • The price arrives in the invoice's price mode. If the product stores a gross price and the invoice shows net prices, Norman converts it with the product's VAT rate, and the other way round.
  • On an invoice without VAT, for example reverse charge or Kleinunternehmer, the line gets 0 % and the net price.

Edit a line from a product

You can change any field after picking. The link stays, and the line keeps showing From catalog.

If you pick a name under Recently used instead, the line is no longer a product line. Norman clears the description, unit and category the product filled in and sets the VAT rate back to the invoice's default.

Save a typed line as a product

If you typed a line by hand and want it in the catalog:

  1. Click Save as product under the line.
  2. Norman opens New product with the line's name, description, unit, price and VAT rate. The price mode follows the invoice: a line on a gross invoice becomes a gross price.
  3. Adjust what you like and click Create and link.

The line takes the saved values and shows From catalog.

You can also type a new name in the Item field and choose Create product at the end of the list.

What stays fixed

  • Editing or archiving a product changes nothing on issued invoices, quotes or recurring invoices. Each line keeps the values it was created with.
  • The same holds the other way: editing a line never changes the product.
