Connect Norman to an AI assistant with MCP

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol lets an AI client discover and use tools provided by Norman. Instead of writing an HTTP request yourself, you ask the assistant to work with your Norman data.

Depending on the connected tools and your account, you can inspect transactions, work with clients and invoices, match supporting documents, or start guided tax and company-formation workflows. Read the tool's result to see what happened and whether another step or approval is needed.

Connect from Norman

Open Automations → Integrations, or open the connection cards. Choose your AI client and follow its connection or installation link.

The hosted MCP server address is:

https://mcp.norman.finance/mcp

The hosted connection uses Norman sign-in through OAuth. Complete the authorization in the browser. You do not need to paste a REST API key into the conversation. Keep your Norman password on the Norman sign-in page.

Setup by client

• Claude: open Settings → Connectors, add a custom connector with the server address above and complete Norman authorization.
• ChatGPT: open the Norman app, connect your Norman account and enable the app in the conversation as required by ChatGPT.
• Cursor: use the Cursor installation link on Norman's Integrations page, then complete sign-in when prompted.
• Other MCP clients: add the server as a remote Streamable HTTP connection. The client must support the required OAuth flow. Follow the server setup guide for client-specific instructions.

Client plans, workspace policies and connector availability can affect which setup options are visible.

Check the company and make a first request

If your Norman account can access several companies, ask the assistant to list them and name the company you want it to use. Check the returned company before asking for changes; do not assume another client's currently selected company was carried over.

Start with a read request:

Show the unpaid invoices for my company. Include the invoice numbers, amounts and due dates.

Then try a preparation task:

Prepare an invoice draft for this client and show me the details before sending it.

Review recipients, amounts, dates and the target company before approving consequential actions. Creating a draft, sending an email and submitting a report are different actions.

Start company formation

You can also ask a connected assistant to guide the formation of a German UG or GmbH. Start with the company you want to form, then review the founders, shares, registered office and business purpose. Norman helps prepare the process; notary and authority steps remain separate. If the connection does not work

Check the exact server URL, whether the client supports remote MCP and OAuth, and whether browser authorization completed. Reconnect through the client's connection settings if its authorization expired. If a tool is missing, check its current support in the MCP documentation.

Disconnect the Norman connector in the AI client when you want to stop using that connection. Manage any authorization controls shown during setup as well. This is separate from revoking a Public API key.
