Connect Mollie
Connect your Mollie account, or open one from Norman. Let clients pay invoices through Mollie, and Norman books your Mollie payments, refunds, fees and payouts.
Updated
Mollie collects payments from your customers and pays the money out to your bank account, less its fees. When you connect Mollie, Norman books each payment at its full amount, Mollie's fees as an expense and each payout as a transfer between your own accounts. Your revenue is then counted once, at the full amount.
The Mollie integration is available for companies in Germany.
Connect your Mollie account
- Go to Automations → Integrations, or open Integrations directly.
- On the Mollie card, select Connect.
- Log in to Mollie and allow Norman access to your Mollie account.
- Mollie sends you back to Norman, and the first import starts. When it has finished, the card shows Last synced.
Norman reads your payments, balance and payouts. It doesn't move money and doesn't charge anything for Mollie payments.
No Mollie account yet
- On the Mollie card, select Create a Mollie account.
- Mollie opens its signup with your details from Norman already filled in: company name, address, VAT ID and register number, and your name and email address.
- Complete Mollie's verification. Mollie checks your company and decides when you can accept payments.
- Allow Norman access to your Mollie account. You come back to Norman, connected.
If Mollie doesn't accept your VAT ID or register number, the signup opens without them, and you enter them in Mollie.
Let clients pay invoices through Mollie
Once Mollie is connected, your invoices can be paid through it.
- Open an invoice and go to Payment details. Under Online payments, Mollie shows a check mark.
- Select Accept online payments by default to add the payment link to every new invoice, or Let this invoice be paid online for one invoice. You can also connect Mollie from here with Connect Mollie.
- Your client opens the payment link from the invoice PDF or email and selects Pay securely with Mollie.
- Mollie's checkout shows the payment methods you turned on in your Mollie account, under your company name. Norman uses your verified website profile in Mollie.
- When Mollie confirms the payment, Norman marks the invoice as paid and books the payment on it. Mollie's fee follows with the next import.
The money goes to your Mollie balance and from there to your bank account, as with every Mollie payment. If you refund the full amount in Mollie, the invoice is open again in Norman. Mollie appears on the payment link only for invoices in a currency Mollie accepts, such as euros.
What Norman books
| In Mollie | In Norman |
|---|---|
| Payment | Revenue at the full amount the customer paid, with your company's VAT treatment |
| Refund, chargeback, failed direct debit | Reduces the revenue of the payment it belongs to, at the same VAT rate |
| Mollie fees | Expense. Mollie bills from the Netherlands, so you declare the VAT under the reverse charge procedure (§ 13b UStG). As a small business (Kleinunternehmer), the fee is booked as an expense including the Dutch VAT. |
| Payout to your bank | Transfer between your own accounts, not revenue |
| Other movements, such as top-ups or loan repayments | Imported without a category, for you to review |
When the payout reaches your bank account, the bank feed shows a credit from "Stichting Mollie Payments". Norman books it as a transfer as well, as long as the amount matches, it arrives within a few days of the payout and you haven't edited it yet. A credit in a period you have already filed stays as it is.
Import period and sync
- Norman imports from 1 January of the year you connect Mollie. If you need an earlier period, contact Support: it can change returns you have already filed.
- Norman syncs every night. To import right away, select Sync now on the Mollie card.
E-commerce mode
Once Mollie is connected, the E-commerce mode section appears on the Integrations page. Turn it on to decide how Mollie is booked:
- Recognise revenue on: Orders books each payment (the standard). Payouts records the money only when Mollie pays it out.
- Book payment provider fees as an expense
- Match payouts against your bank account
- Import refunds
While e-commerce mode is off, Norman uses the standard: revenue on orders, with fees, payout matching and refunds turned on.
Good to know
- Norman books Mollie payments as domestic sales, because Mollie doesn't tell Norman where the customer is. If you sell to consumers in other EU countries under the One-Stop-Shop (OSS), correct those sales.
- PayPal payments you take through Mollie go straight to your PayPal account, not to your Mollie balance. Connect PayPal separately, see Connect PayPal and Wise.
- To stop the import, select Disconnect on the Mollie card. This ends Norman's access in Mollie as well. Bookings that were already imported stay in Norman.
- For other connections, see Connect services and manage your integrations.
