FAQ
Can I deduct a smartwatch from tax?
In most cases, no. The tax office treats wristwatches, smart ones included, as private living expenses, even if you use them throughout your working day.
When is a deduction possible after all?
When the watch is demonstrably used almost exclusively for business and functions as a tool, for example as a pure measuring or control device on site with no discernible private benefit.
Can I at least claim a share of it?
For watches, the courts generally do not accept a split. Smartphones are different: there, a defensible allocation by business usage share is possible.
Does the same apply to fitness trackers and health apps?
Yes, and even more strictly. Devices and subscriptions around sport, sleep, and health count as private, even when they are meant to keep you fit for work.
