You deduct IKZE contributions in your annual Polish PIT return, not in monthly tax advances. The 2026 contribution limit is PLN 11,304, or PLN 16,956 for people conducting non-agricultural activity as defined in Polish social insurance law. The deduction covers actual contributions within the applicable limit and available income or revenue. AI can help organise evidence and identify discrepancies before you enter an amount in the return.
This guide concerns the preparation of a Polish personal income tax deduction, primarily for a sole trader operating a JDG. It does not compare investment products or explain a limited company’s CIT return. We checked the rules and amounts on 7 November 2026.
What do you deduct: contributions, the balance or tax?
IKZE stands for indywidualne konto zabezpieczenia emerytalnego, a Polish individual retirement security account. For PIT, the relevant figure is the amount contributed during the tax year, not the account’s current value. The balance may include savings from earlier years and investment gains or losses. Do not copy the balance shown in your provider’s app into the deduction field.
The deduction reduces income taxed under the progressive scale or the 19% flat-rate income tax regime. Under ryczałt, the Polish lump-sum tax on recorded revenue, it reduces revenue. It does not subtract the entire contribution from your tax bill. A PLN 5,000 deduction does not automatically mean PLN 5,000 less tax.
The legal basis includes Article 26(1)(2b) and Article 30c of the Polish PIT Act. This is a personal deduction. Do not treat your private IKZE as an ordinary business expense invoice or as a deduction from a limited company’s CIT liability.
What is the IKZE limit for 2026?
Before adding up documents, identify their tax year and your applicable category. The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy publishes these contribution limits for 2026:
| Saver’s category | Contribution limit for 2026 |
|---|---|
| Standard limit | PLN 11,304 |
| Non-agricultural activity within Article 8(6) of the Social Insurance System Act | PLN 16,956 |
The higher figure replaces the standard limit; it is not an extra allowance to add on top. Do not select it simply because you describe yourself as an entrepreneur or hold shares in a company. Check your status against the statutory definition, especially if your circumstances changed during the year.
This is a contribution limit, not a promise that the entire amount is deductible. If you pay less, you cannot add the unused allowance to your return. If your available income or revenue is insufficient, the undeducted amount cannot be carried forward. The Ministry of Finance’s IKZE relief guide confirms that restriction.
What evidence should you prepare?
Start with evidence of completed contributions and a statement from your IKZE provider. The evidence should identify the payer, recipient, payment purpose and amount. A bank transfer confirmation can substantiate a contribution; a schedule of future transfers cannot.
A practical preparation pack contains:
- Account identification: a document showing that the account is an IKZE belonging to the relevant saver.
- Contributions made in 2026: the amount, date and completion status of each payment.
- The provider’s statement: a second source to reconcile against bank confirmations, if available.
- Your status: the basis for applying the correct contribution limit.
- Annual PIT figures: your tax regime and the income or revenue against which the deduction will be checked.
Avoid sharing your entire banking history with an assistant when selected transactions are enough. Remove unnecessary account numbers and identifiers from the working schedule. Retain the originals with your tax records.
For a transfer around the year end, do not guess which year the contribution belongs to. Compare the confirmation with the provider’s records and resolve a discrepancy before claiming it. Flag refunds, transfers between accounts and transactions with unclear descriptions for separate review. Recognising the letters “IKZE” in a payment reference does not establish the tax treatment of every transaction.
How can AI reconcile contributions without double-counting?
The useful output is a table that points back to supporting documents. Each actual contribution should occupy one row, even when both a bank statement and a provider statement show it. Two documents confirming the same PLN 500 payment do not make a PLN 1,000 contribution.
Ask the assistant to separate confirmed contributions, planned transfers and unresolved items. Missing evidence should never silently become “paid”. For example:
Organise my IKZE documents for 2026. Show each contribution’s date, amount, status and source document. Match confirmations of the same transaction so it is counted once. Separate scheduled payments and unclear transactions from confirmed contributions. Do not infer my eligibility for the higher limit. Show a total for review and a list of missing information.
This is a general example of using AI to prepare records, not a description of automatic IKZE importing in Norman. Review the source documents for the largest amounts and every discrepancy. Check a few ordinary entries too: a misread decimal separator or date can look convincing in a polished summary.
Example: confirmed contributions and a December plan
Suppose a sole trader has ten confirmations for PLN 500 each from January to October, plus a confirmed PLN 2,000 contribution in November. The bank also shows a PLN 2,000 transfer scheduled for December. These are illustrative figures, not a Norman customer’s results.
Confirmed contributions total PLN 7,000: 10 × PLN 500 + PLN 2,000. The December plan does not yet increase that figure to PLN 9,000. Update the schedule after the payment is completed and the full year’s evidence is checked. If the bank export and IKZE statement both show the November payment, include that PLN 2,000 once.
Now consider a separate, simplified tax calculation for a completed year. Assume PLN 10,000 of eligible, deductible contributions, 19% flat-rate income tax and a tax base of PLN 60,000 before this deduction. We leave out other reliefs, adjustments and rounding:
- Tax base after deduction: PLN 60,000 − PLN 10,000 = PLN 50,000.
- Tax before deduction: PLN 60,000 × 19% = PLN 11,400.
- Tax after deduction: PLN 50,000 × 19% = PLN 9,500.
- Difference: PLN 1,900.
This is a reduction in calculated tax, not a guaranteed refund payment. The final balance also depends on advances and other return figures. The example does not assess investment returns, fees or taxes associated with subsequently withdrawing money from IKZE.
Why does the deduction belong in the annual return?
The Ministry of Finance explicitly states that IKZE relief cannot be included when calculating income tax advances. Even a correctly documented November contribution therefore does not justify reducing the November advance using this deduction. Prepare the contribution schedule for the annual return.
For a JDG, that normally means PIT-36 under the progressive scale, PIT-36L under the 19% flat-rate regime or PIT-28 under ryczałt. Follow the instructions for the form covering the relevant tax year instead of copying a box number from an old guide. If you report several income sources, make sure the same contribution is not deducted more than once.
An amount extracted by AI does not complete the process. You still need to check eligibility, the deductible amount, the return itself and the resulting tax. Our guide to PIT-5 and whether it needs to be filed explains the distinction between advances and a return.
How does this fit into preparing PIT with Norman?
Norman’s annual PIT instructions describe preparing a return from business records and approved transactions, reviewing deductions and downloading XML for submission yourself. They do not confirm automatic recognition of IKZE contributions. Treat your reconciled documents as evidence for checking a particular deduction, rather than assuming the software has already included it.
Before filing, verify that the final return actually contains the correct IKZE amount. If you cannot enter it correctly in the form you are using, clarify the process with support or an accountant. Preparing records, reviewing the return, submitting it and paying any outstanding tax are separate steps.
For the wider workflow, see how AI prepares taxes for a Polish sole trader and AI bookkeeping for Poland. For IKZE, follow a clear sequence: substantiate contributions, check the limit and available income, then verify the deduction in the annual return.
Frequently asked questions
- Can an IKZE contribution reduce my monthly PIT advance?
- No. You claim the IKZE deduction in your annual tax return. Keep payment evidence as soon as you contribute, but do not use this relief to reduce a current monthly advance.
- Can I carry an unused IKZE deduction into the next year?
- No. Contributions you cannot deduct because your income or revenue is too low cannot be carried forward to later years. The contribution limit and the amount you can deduct are separate questions.
- Does a PLN 10,000 IKZE deduction mean a PLN 10,000 tax refund?
- No. The deduction reduces your tax base. In a simplified example with 19% flat-rate income tax and sufficient income, a PLN 10,000 deduction reduces tax by PLN 1,900. Your final refund or payment depends on the whole return and the advances already paid.
