Normanvs.Taxfix

The Taxfix alternative for self-employed people who invoice

A tax app and a set of books solve different problems. This comparison shows when each one fits.

In short

Taxfix has built its business on the income tax return: a question-and-answer app, strongest for employees and straightforward cases, with a self-employed plan added for VAT-registered users. It has no invoicing and no bank connection, and income tax is not yet part of that self-employed plan.

Norman is the better choice as soon as you issue invoices. Bookkeeping and invoicing are free, the EÜR is built from receipts booked as you go rather than in hindsight, VAT returns go out during the year, and UG and GmbH are covered. You only pay for the tax filing.

What are the differences?

Once a year, or all year

This is the actual difference; everything else follows from it.

Norman

Norman runs continuously: bank transactions are categorized, receipts captured by photo, invoices issued. The EÜR is built out of that bookkeeping rather than reconstructed from memory at year end.

Taxfix

Taxfix is a tax-return app: you answer questions about the year just ended, the app fills the forms and files them for you. Between two returns, nothing happens.

Issuing invoices

Norman

Invoices, quotes, reminders, and e-invoicing (XRechnung, ZUGFeRD) are included and free, with no limit.

Taxfix

Not part of the product. Taxfix processes your figures but does not produce outgoing invoices.

Bank connection

Norman

Your business account is connected, transactions are categorized automatically and matched to receipts.

Taxfix

No bank connection. The app captures receipts, but not the account movements behind them.

Who it covers

Norman

Self-employed people, freelancers, and companies: including UG and GmbH with corporate tax, trade tax, and DATEV export.

Taxfix

Employees and solo self-employed people with straightforward cases, primarily Kleinunternehmer. Taxfix is not built for a UG or GmbH.

VAT

Norman

The VAT return is built monthly or quarterly from turnover already booked: the figures are there and you approve the preview. Deadline extensions and nil returns included.

Taxfix

Taxfix files the VAT return for you as well. You supply the figures, though, since there is no bank connection and no ongoing bookkeeping behind it.

Norman or Taxfix: which fits you?

Norman

Choose Norman if you …

  • Issue invoices and would rather not pay for it

  • Collect receipts all year instead of hunting for them in March

  • Have to file VAT returns during the year

  • Need e-invoicing because your clients are businesses

  • Run a UG or GmbH, or plan to start one

Taxfix

Choose Taxfix if you …

  • Only want to file an income tax return

  • Are employed, or self-employed on the side

  • Work as a Kleinunternehmer without VAT and with few receipts

  • Prefer a flat price per return over a subscription

  • Want to be walked through the return question by question

For anyone who needs more than one tax return a year

Taxfix fills in your return once a year. Norman keeps the books it comes from: invoicing, receipts, and bank matching free, with VAT returns during the year.

FAQ

Which Norman workflows are relevant here?

Invoices, receipts, bank matching, bookkeeping, and tax data work together so finance work does not split across separate tools.

Can I start for free?

Yes. The Free plan covers core bookkeeping and invoicing. Paid plans unlock tax, team, and automation features.

Do I still need a tax advisor?

Norman reduces the operational preparation. For complex cases, an advisor can still stay involved and receive more structured data.

Which data should I connect?

Norman saves the most work when bank, invoices, receipts, and relevant inboxes are connected.
